Ons Plek is a home for girls and young women. As stated on the Ons Plek website “The girls’ basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, education and love are provided, with the care that aims to be healing for the girl and her family.

Once the children have crossed the threshold into Ons Plek they are not here as street children, but as children who are looking for a new place in society. They want to be seen as ordinary children. For them, Ons Plek is not a project for female street children, but a place, “OUR PLACE, where ‘sifunda ukuphila’ — we learn for our future lives”.

With your donations, we successfully carried out our first pad drive. On the 18 July 2020, the day South Africa celebrates Nelson Mandela Day, the Making Herstory RSA team went to Ons Plek home located in Woodstock and Mowbray. We donated 30 packages for each home.

We were greeted with grateful smiles and were immediately embraced with the warm and welcoming energy of the staff and young women.

We also had the privilege of donating 40 packs to Sisters Incorporated which is a home for women and children. “Sisters Incorporated plays a critical role in protecting, supporting and empowering women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence, abuse and stigmatisation that is so prevalent and widespread in our communities”. The women were extremely happy to see our distribution.

We also managed to successfully distribute 100 packages to homeless women in the CBD, Athlone, Pelican Park, and Strandfontein.
