The process of reporting sexual assault in South Africa is overwhelming, long and discomforting. We aim to provide care packages for these survivors of GBV who undergo this process. Upon lots of consideration and research, on the 16th November 2020, Making HERstory RSA released its second drive, “ Survivor Care Package Drive”. The care packages consisted of:

🌸tissues
🌸deodorant
🌸bottled water
🌸notebook (to capture emotions being felt and to reflect if they would like to)
🌸noodles (the reporting process is long and can be tiring. It is important during this time that survivors take their ARV’s as soon as possible. Long hours with no food provided may lead to the delay in taking these ARV’s. We have included a quick and convenient food item to help prevent this)
For this drive, we raised a total of R6700 and were able to purchase 150 items of each listed above.
On the 11th February 2021 we handed over all 150 packages to Rape Crisis, which will then be distributed to Thuthuzela Care Centres:
- Victoria Hospital (75 packages)
- Heideveld Day Hospital. (75 packages)
